Over the years, I have developed a true love of the written word. I have poetry that spans back as far as my late teens, reminding me of the journey I’ve been on so far.
And I have a whole series of Advent poems for kids, that explore life at the North Pole during its busiest season.
I also have some kids stories hanging around on my external hard-drive, written up after I returned from camp where I’d had to come up with a story off the top of my head one day. All the best stories come out of the random moments!
Most recently I’ve started working on a Young Adult fantasy novel. It’s a story that started with a dream, stayed in my head for many years, eventually started to build into a story, and has been in the works for almost a decade now. Not because I don’t want to write it, but because I haven’t prioritised the time to write it.
Which is where “freeing the creative spirit” came from – I knew I had kept my creativity locked away for far too long. We need to let our creativity out, otherwise it just burns away inside our heart, desperately waiting for the chance to leap out and touch others.
So here’s to making the time for letting that creative spirit loose. Who’s with me?
